Cudas Swim Team – 2017
The summer swim team season is just around the corner and we have very high hopes coming off of our wonderful 2016 season! We look forward to another amazing summer! You are receiving this email because you have had a swimmer on the Cuda Swim Team in the past or have expressed interest in joining the team this coming summer. If you would like to stop receiving information regarding the Coppermine Swim Team, kindly reply directly to this email and I would be happy to remove you. Anyone who was a part of last years Cuda Swim Team will say with sincerity that it was one they will never forget!
Mary Ellen Pestrichelli and Cait Matheson will be the swim team parent representatives this year. We are also thrilled to announce that our very own, very popular 2016 Head Coach Danny Sanders will be joining us again this summer to lead our Cuda swimmers! Danny just completed his second year at Franklin and Marshall where he is a member of the Men’s Swim Team.
We want to invite everyone, from beginners to year-round club swimmers, to consider participating on our swim team. Swimming is a wonderful sport and the kids have a great time in practice and at the meets. Our meets are scheduled for Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings during June and July. There are eight dual meets in the season, and league championships at the end of the season in July. If you or your child is unsure about joining the Swim Team, come the first week of practice as a trial period. If you like what you see, you can submit the registration at the end of this first week. The registration form can be found on our website www.coppermineswimclub.com under the Swim Team tab.
We would also like to encourage our families with younger children to consider Coppermine Kids Club in combination with the Cudas Swim Team! The Kids Club or “CKC” provides all swim team members with affordable, flexible, fun-filled summer childcare. There are childcare options ranging from 5 days per week to “choose your days.” There is also the option to “drop in” to Kids Club for a set fee. The Coppermine Kids Club / Cudas Swim Team combination has been an enormous success in the past and our children enjoy the experience of a competitive swim team in addition to being cared for in activity filled days and a safe environment. Once again, please see all Kids Club information on our website www.coppermineswimclub.com under the Coppermine Kids Club tab.
The swim team fee for this year is $120 per swimmer. Swim team only memberships are available as well for $200 per swimmer. There will also be a Cuda Cafe set up fee of $20 per family. These fees are used to cover the expenses of running the team including: league fees and coaches’ salaries. We ask that you complete the attached form and mail your fees to us no later than May 30th so that we can properly organize the practice sessions.

Make sure that you include your contact information (especially your email addresses) so that we can keep you up-to-date as new information becomes available.
Practices will begin on Tuesday, May 30th (ages 10 and under: 4-4:45; 11 and older: 4:45-6:00). Once school ends, practice will move to the mornings starting on Friday, June 23rd. Practice will then be Monday thru Friday (10 and under: 9:15-10:15; 11 and older: 10:15-11:45).
To help ensure a minimum level of proficiency with the goal of maintaining a safe environment during practice and at meets, all swim team members must pass a timed Deep Water test administered by the swim team coaches by the end of the first week of practice.
Practice serves multiple roles: 1) conditioning; 2) group and/or individual technique instruction; 3) drills; and 4) fun activities. Unfortunately, with only an hour’s time for practice daily there is not a lot of time for individual instruction. We highly recommend that beginning to intermediate swimmers supplement swim team with group or individual lessons. A few lessons will go a long way. Talk to the coaches or check out all of the swim lesson options under the Swim Lessons tab of our website www.coppermineswimclub.com.
To enhance the experience for the kids several other social functions are planned throughout the season such as a ‘Lets Get Psyched’ pasta party before the first Saturday meet, a Beach Day in July, and an End of the Season Bash!
The swim meets are all parent run, so everyone’s help is needed. We will continue to use our online job sign up program, Volunteer Spot, to schedule and manage the different jobs needed to run our swim meets, such as timers, officials, runners, ribbons, scorers, parking attendants, 50/50, Cuda Cafe, etc. Every family will be expected to volunteer (or prepare a baked good) at all 4 home meets and 2 away swim meets.
There will be two parent meetings offered after practice on Wednesday, May 31st and Thursday June 1st from 6:15-6:45pm. Families are only required to attend one of the two meetings. This meeting is a great opportunity to meet the coaches and other parents, review the policies and procedures of the team, go over the season calendar, and to ask any questions that you may have.
Metro Swim Shop will also be at the pool on Wednesday, May 31st from 4:00pm – 6:00pm for a team suit fitting. If you cannot make this time, you may visit their shop at 1221 Valley Road in Stirling, NJ at your convenience. The team suit for 2017 will be the same as last year. If you just purchased a suit last year and it still fits, your swimmer can wear that! If you decide to wear a suit you already have, a one-piece suit for girls and jammer or brief for boys is a necessity, no bikinis, tankinis or baggy swim trunks. That said, wearing a team suit helps identify you on deck as a CUDA. A team swim cap also helps coaches identify you quickly on deck. It’s amazing how swimmers all look alike on deck! CUDA swim caps can be purchased for $6.50 from Mary Ellen Pestrichelli on 6/2 and at all meets.
*Meet schedule for 2017 will be posted in May 2017!
Directions and other information on schedules can be found at the New Jersey Swimming & Diving Conference web page www.njsdc.org
*Championships for the C League: Venue and Date TBD
*Conference Championship meet for all qualifiers: Frog Hollow Country Club, Date- TBD
We understand that your kids may have other activities, camps or vacation planned during the swim season. We just ask that you try and have your swimmer attend as many meets as possible, especially the season-end championships.
